You need a storage unit.  You know of some storage facilities out on Highway 8, not far from your home, so you head out there, rent what seems to be the perfect mini storage unit for your needs, and all is well in your world.

Or is it?

You would be amazed how many people rent the wrong storage unit for their needs. We know because this is our business. We are Blue Mound 287 Self Storage, serving the people of Fort Worth, and storage is our business. Call us for more information before you lay your money down on a storage unit which is not right for you.

Let’s look at some questions you should ask before renting a storage unit.

What size do you need?

This is an easy question to answer if you ask someone who does this for a living, like the pros at Blue Mound 287 Self Storage.  On our website, front page, we tell you exactly what you can fit into every single storage unit we rent, from 5’x5’ to 20’x30’.

That’s the easy way to determine what you need. The hard way, which is efficient but time-consuming, is to measure everything you have to store, do the math, and determine, on your own, how much space you need.

Either way works!

What hours do you have access?

In our opinion, only 24/7 access will do! The world does not operate on a 9-5 basis. Far too many people work graveyard shifts. Far too many work swing shifts.  There are insomniacs and there are partiers.  There will always be people who want something out of their storage unit at three a.m., and it’s just nice to know the option is available should you need it.

How easy is it to access that storage unit?

In and out with your car or truck should be easy.  In and out inside the storage building should be easy. There should be wide aisles. Carrying items is never fun, but at least, with easy access, the process can be easy.

What kind of security is there at the storage facility?

At the very least you should expect a gate-facility with only one ingress-egress main gate. There should be video monitoring.  Best case scenario there is on-site management. Ask about these things regarding secure self storage before signing a rental agreement.  It matters!

Do you need climate controlled storage?

If you live in a moderate climate with few extreme temperature variations, climate controlled storage might not be important. But if you live in a place like Fort Worth, Texas, where summer temps hit 110 degrees on a regular basis, you better believe climate controlled storage is important.

Climate controlled storage prevents oxidation damage to electronics, collectibles, and most mechanized items.  It usually costs ten to fifteen dollars more per month, but it is well-worth the extra cost for the protection against Mother Nature.
